Attention all mommies...

We're going to pay a babysitter to watch Hailey for the entire day soon (the first time in the last year and a half), and I have NO clue what the going rate is for that. Any thoughts??

$10 an hour for a professional and for the first time (in the city). I'd ask them what they charge and hope for $8 an hour :) At the very least I'd pay minimum wage.

I'm really interested to see what other people say, though, because there's really no rulebook for this sort of thing. I remember when I was a young teen getting paid $5 an hour and thinking that was so much money. In college I would have considered that a slap in the face!

I would go with Bridget...always ask first to see what they offer! You might just be able to do a lump sum..."$30 for the afternoon" kind of thing.
Oh, and please do pray for a one hour labor!! =) That sounds amazing...although I'm sure it was crazy painful/intense!

I agree with the lump sum method of payment. Unless it figures out to be only like $5 per hour, that's kinda lame. Otherwise, $7-9 dollars is pretty average depending on how experienced the person is.
